Johanna Penz, the founder of the Innsbruck art fair, has announced lots of new features for the next fair: these include a section on art and antiques from the 19th century and the relocation to the imposing main hall A.

A new trade fair hall, an extended programme and a spectacular special show: founder Johanna Penz is more than ambitious in the run-up to the 20th anniversary of the ART fair in Innsbruck.  Penz is focusing on an overall shake-up of the fair for the 19thInnsbruck art fair which will take place from 20 to 23 February 2015. ART Innsbruck will be held in the main hall A of the Innsbruck exhibition centre for the first time. Penz wants to implement the second comprehensive programme re-launch in the history of the Innsbruck art fair.

In its early days, the fair was designed to focus on ‘Editions of Art’ – a specialist fair for art series, photography and multiples – before expanding to include original 20th century artwork and paintings after two years. Now ART is also expanding yet again to include art and antiques of the 19th century – a big field for collectors. Based on the motto of ‘art of the times’, Penz wants to boost ART in future and develop it into a collector’s fair. “Over ART Innsbruck’s almost 20 year history, we have reached out to and impressed a broad audience and we have brought art into endless homes and apartments where there was nothing or only reproductions in the past. At the same time, we have managed to persuade many people that art is probably the most satisfying and most sensible investment and that they can help to shape the art market and boost and support the development of artists through the targeted purchasing of contemporary artwork,” says Penz.

Simultaneously, the primary concept for ART Innsbruck has now reached a point “where our existing customers are quite rightly expecting us to produce new momentum and inspiration”. By expanding the portfolio to include 19th century art and antiques, ART is also following an international trend. “During times of crisis, the desire and need for quality and lasting values increases,” says Penz who also wants to increasingly focus on unique collector shows as part of the traditional ART special shows in the future. The launch will begin with a special show by the ingenious yet crazy painter Francis Bacon with the works being exclusively brought to Innsbruck for the first time by Penz & Milionart.
For the committed trade fair organiser, the ‘ART Innsbruck reloaded’ project shortly before completion of the fair’s second decade represents an exciting challenge, as she admits herself. It is about straying far from the familiar, well-trodden path and braving new territory. “In this way, we are preparing ART for its third successful decade,” Penz is convinced.

Every year in spring, international visual arts and antiques from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries are presented at ART Innsbruck.

70 exhibitors including gallery owners and art dealers from 10 nations will be exhibiting paintings, original graphics, sculptures, photography, new media, antique furniture, carpets, glass, porcelain and other treasures.
